Brother MarieVictorin (Le Jardin Botanique, La Flore Laurentienne) was 46 when he met 23yearold Marcelle Gauvreau. Both have been close to death and share the same love of God and Nature. He becomes her teacher, later she becomes his assistant. Their friendship evolves. MarieVictorin offers Marcelle different readings on sexuality that she hastens to comment on from her own intimate experiences. In an epistolary exchange that will last until the death of MarieVictorin, they explore human desires and “biology without a veil”. This great chaste love, the love of Quebec’s flora, pushes them to question their own relationship with love and Nature.

  • A film that reflects very beautiful raw and sensual dialogues, very beautiful landscapes and a lot of innuendo… The correspondence sublimates their love. He compares the flora to the flora of the body… They describe orgasm and it’s surprising for the time. The 2 eras make us think. Today we have sex without love, while they make love without sex. A film that is difficult to describe but burning to the ears

  • The main actors, Alexandre Goyette and Mylène Mackay, bring a striking emotional depth to their roles as Antoine and Roxane. Their captivating performance brings to life the intense and chaste relationship between MarieVictorin and Marcelle
(…)Lyne Charlebois signs here a poignant and visually splendid film, offering a cinematographic experience that will resonate long after the screening.

  • Before beating around the bush, let’s dare to write it: Tell me why these things are so beautiful is close to perfection
(…) Disconcerting in its form, but delicate, sensual, witty and joyful, Tell Me Why These Things Are So Beautiful is a gem that is both a period film and a poem; It is one of the most inspired cinematographic objects, both conceptual and very “mainstream”. Stunning. The last Quebec film that made such a strong impression on us was C.R.A.Z.Y. by JeanMarc Vallée. Had it not been for the fear of disrespecting his pious protagonists, one would even go so far as to consider it orgasmic.

  • This film is really worth seeing in the cinema, forthe beauty of the landscapes, the music and alsofor the discovery of love and sexuality from anangle that is very rarely addressed, all in eroticism and romanticism. We are voyeurs of a romantic relationship on paper, which makes us feel as if we are reading someone’s diary and that we shouldn’t. It’s beautiful and it’s exciting. A beautiful reflection without judgment.
