Unconditional Love of a Father – unstable ties – youth radicalization (Rise of the far-right)

Pierre, 50, raises his two sons alone. The three of them are very close. Louis, the youngest, is about to leave home to go to university in Paris. Fus, slightly older, is becoming secretive. Fascinated by violence, he becomes active in far-right extremist groups, at the very opposite of his father’s values. Between them, there is love and hate, until tragedy happens

(Playtime – French distributor)

  • The Quiet Son lays bare how ideological and social pressures can fracture families overnight without heavy-handedness. By centering on character over message, it allows the political dimensions to emerge organically and with nuance.
    (F2 – Film Forward)

  • The screenplay subtly recounts the tipping point of a young man into the hatred and disarray of a father. Benjamin Voisin displays all the insolence of his talent, while Vincent Lindon finds a role that matches his strength of play and his commitment.

  • “The Quiet Son’ Review: Far-Right Radicalism Pulls a Family Apart in an Intensely Performed French Drama (…) How do you stop a child from pursuing political beliefs that are diametrically opposed to yours — beliefs that could be dangerous? Is it better to let them follow their own path, in the hopes that they’ll eventually come around? Or do you try and intervene at some point, with the risk of pushing them even further in the wrong direction?
    (Hollywood Reporter)

  • Chilling and touching at the same time, this work is a warning about the rise of radicalism in a certain disenchanted French youth, with three wonderful actors.
