Halima, a French woman of Algerian origin, is pregnant with her second child. When she learns that she will have a boy this time, traumatic memories resurface. She then had to admit to her Quebec husband, Sylvain, that she had lied to him about her family all these years. She is not an orphan as she has always maintained: her father, mother, sisters and brothers are very much alive. At the same time, Halima tells Sylvain that she needs to return to France. As he refuses to let her go alone, they fly together to Europe, with their young daughter Léa. There, Sylvain will follow his wife on this pilgrimage to make amends, gradually learning about her deep wounds. He never expected such revelations
CINÉMA PRINCESS

  • The climate of tension and anguish, fortified by the heady motif of the deserted corridor in the childhood home, is skillfully created. Antoine Bertrand (LOUIS CYR, AU REVOIR LE BONHEUR) portrays the understanding husband with a mixture of humour, firmness and sensitivity.
    MEDIAFILM

  • With her subtle acting where she says a lot with her silences, Naïlia Harzoune offers a beautiful performance as an actress and Antoine Bertrand is excellent in the role of this sensitive and loving father pushed to his limits. The emotions he plays as he learns the terrible family secrets seem to be frankly felt and support the narrative well.
    Le Droit

  • In the end, even if it tackles hard themes, The Hidden Woman remains a necessary film: it pushes the audience to reflect on the meaning of family and on the possibility of improving human destiny through willpower. “Halima learns to save herself to save those she loves,” says Bachir Bensaddek.
