1958. In a small French town, Hélène and Michel Dupuis lead a happy, carefree life with their two children: he is a banker, she is a homemaker. One evening, an argument over a washing machine ends in an electric shock. The couple wake up suddenly transported to 2025, discovering a radically transformed world. For Hélène, who has always lived in her husband’s shadow, it is a liberating revelation; for Michel, who sees his male privileges shattered, it is a genuine upheaval. Between a fresh new world and old-fashioned charm, this journey through time will be anything but restful.
- “Elsa Zylberstein and Didier Bourdon spare no effort, delighting us with this superbly written comedy, packed with gags and deeply feminist.”
Translation from Le Parisien
- “A good, quintessentially French comedy… Behind the light tone, it turns out to be quite feminist, and not so silly after all.” — Translation from Le Soleil
- When the story is set in the present day, the writers maintain a beautiful balance between mockery and praise. While the staging becomes more frenetic and the sets more stripped back, they cheerfully poke fun at the omnipresence of screens and smart appliances. This leads to repetitive gags that are not always subtle. Then they tackle women’s issues, marriage for all, and immigration in order to celebrate the evolution of social customs.
