In the Lac-Saint-Jean region, more than a century and a half ago, major forest fires helped create the fertile ground that allowed the legendary presence of the blueberry to flourish. Today, the region faces multiple challenges, including climate change, the modernization of agricultural models, and economic pressures. Through a series of interwoven stories and aspirations that meet and converse with one another, this choral film reveals the interconnectedness of a diverse community brought together by this emblematic regional fruit. Thanks to a rich sound design in which music emerges as a point of connection, this sensitive and skillfully crafted film carries a note of optimism, without denying the difficulties of the present or those still to come.

- “Opening with a charming legendary tale typical of the Lac‑Saint‑Jean inhabitants’ fondness for exaggeration, Le Blues du bleuet (a cleverly chosen, multi‑layered title) offers a warm tribute to a fruitful and beloved regional practice. Magnificent aerial shots convey the vastness of the blueberry fields and the impact of forest fires in the region, whose ashes help regenerate the blueberry plants.”

- “One understands why the organizers of the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) chose Les blues du bleuet last November as the closing film of the festival’s 2025 edition. It allowed the event to end on a note of hope.”

- “Livov’s impressionistic approach shapes a gentle, tender, and poetic tribute to this corner of the world, far from his native continent. Without narration, the film gives full space to small slices of life captured here and there, with the little fruit that also gave its nickname to the region’s inhabitants serving as a guiding thread.”
